The Sinharaja forest is the only undisturbed rain forest left in Sri Lanka. It is about 9000 hectares in extent. Many of the plants are very rare. Over 60% of the tree species are found only in the lowland wet zone of Sri Lanka If these species of trees are allowed to get destroyed, the world would lose them altogether. So it is important that much effort is made to conserve this rich, valuable and fragile habitat.

The Sinharaja rain forest is the largest rain forest reserve in Sri Lanka. In 1840 Sinharaja became a crown propety. In 1988 the Sinharaja was made a National Wilderness area. In 1989 UNESCO included the Sinharaja Forest in the World Heritage list, as the first National Heritage of Sri Lanka.

The Sinharja forest is home to many rare animals, birds, butterflies, insecte, reptiles and trees. Ferns and mosses grow well as the climate is humid because of heavy rainfall.

I am glad to introduction my self. My name is A.L.Nisha Kumudunie. My friends call me “Nisha”. I was born in 1988 November 29.My village is Ehalapitiya. It situated in Galle district. My home town is Neluwa. There are five members in my family. They are my mother, my father, elder sister, younger brother and myself. My father is Mr: A.L.Dharmaseana. He is a farmer. My mother is Mrs: S.L.Wickramasingha. She is a good house wife. She makes our house a home. My elder sister is A.L.Iresha Samanmalie. She is an undergraduate from Ruhuna University of Matara. My younger brother is A.L.Pethum Saranga. He is still schooling. He stude in Neluwa National School of Galle. Our family is a middleclass one. Our main income is a small tea estate. We live in peace and love.
To tell something about my education. I was educated first G/Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya. After getting through the my O/L exam, I entered Neluwa National School. I followed my A/L in Arts stream. I faced the my A/L exam in 2008. I hope to enter the University .I like to be a teacher. My hobbies are collecting feathers and collecting stamps .I like so much recalling the my past. I think I will have a bright future. I wish my self success.
